OISS Peer Ambassador Program
OISS PEER AMBASSADOR PROGRAM
As a continuing international student there are many opportunities for you to be involved in assisting our new students. We are seeking students at both the undergraduate and graduate levels to volunteer as peer ambassadors.
Why Consider Becoming a Peer Ambassador
Remember your first year at Wayne State? Perhaps you felt scared, lonely, or lost? You probably still remember the various questions you had about living in a new country, the challenges you faced adjusting to a new environment, and most importantly, the people who helped you through that first year. Now it is your turn to make a difference by providing assistance to new international students.

Responsibilities/Expectations of Becoming a Peer Mentor:
- Serve as leader and a role model for incoming students.
- Provide students with academic survival information to help them with common academic adjustments and other problems encountered by new students.
- Willing to share your first‐year experience and help mentees with questions regarding academic, cultural, and social concerns.
- Only sign up for the dates that you know you can be available to volunteer.
- Peer Ambassadors must arrive on time at each orientation and other OISS programs. If the peer ambassador will be late, please contact the program coordinator.
- If the peer ambassadors cannot make an orientation or other programs contact the program coordinator within 24 hours.
Peer Ambassadors duties include:
- Leading Campus Tours
- Creating a positive environment during orientation
- Greeting students as they arrive
- Directing students where to go
- Assist in icebreakers, group discussions, conversing and making students feel at home
- Share personal testimonials and stories at orientation
- Assist in any OISS programming events, such as, New Student Resource Party, Global Festival and International Education Week
- Being a mentor to a new student or students from your home country
- Participate in international chats
