The international student statistics reported on this page differ from the Official Enrollment Profile for Fall 2010 reported on the WSU Office of the Registrar's website. Because of the difference in the Open Doors requirements and reporting cycles data adjustments are made after the Registrar’s census data is published.

Open Doors is an annual report published by the Institute of International Education (IIE) and is the standard reporting tool used by universities across the country to report their international and study abroad numbers. Open Doors collects Fall term data from US higher education institutions on international students enrolled in degree programs and those who have graduated but are using approved Optional Practical Training (OPT) work authorization.

WSU international students using post-graduation OPT are no longer enrolled at WSU, however, we are required by the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) to maintain these students' records in the federal Student and Exchange Visitor Information System (SEVIS) until their OPT is completed. Since the Office of the Registrar's Official Enrollment Profile consists only of students enrolled at WSU, their figures do not include international students on OPT.

Our Open Doors data includes all students such as Graduate Medical Residents, non-degree exchange students, etc., in all non-immigrant categories.
